Soundcloud has made minimal updates to the capabilities and overall look of their platform since its creation in 2007, making it impossible to compete with newer music streaming services.

This app re-design introduces new features, promotional material, and a more user-friendly experience to bring back Soundcloud's popularity. Through an analysis of Soundcloud’s competitors and interviews with both users and active artists uploading to the platform, appropriate design direction was taken.

 

An affinity map includes possible app features and addresses the shared needs and wants of the user. After creating a "user wishlist", the key goals for this project were redefined:

  1. Queueing system

  2. Homepage that features your music

  3. See what your friends are listening to

design choices

To keep a unified feel, Soundcloud's existing brand guidelines were applied. Wire framing and testing were completed before finalizing the design.
